Step 3: PAWS In practice

Practice. Proof. Strengthen real-world skills with intention.

Paws in Practice is Step Three in the Flying Paws developmental pathway, designed for dogs who have completed Puppy to Pro and are ready to strengthen their skills in real-world environments.

Paws in Practice strengthens real-world reliability by proofing behaviour, building resilience, and helping dogs stay calm, connected, and thoughtful as challenges increase. Low-pressure obstacles, carefully structured distractions, and guided skill-building help transform training into real-life reliability, without overwhelm.

Following Puppy to Pro, this stage expands your dog’s skills into real-world adventures and long-term confidence.

IS THIS PROGRAM RIGHT FOR YOU?

Entry is reserved for dogs progressing from Puppy to Pro to maintain a calm, structured learning environment.

Paws in Practice is suitable for dogs who:

  • Can work calmly around other dogs and people
  • Have basic recall, loose lead walking, and engagement skills
  • Can stay under threshold in a group training environment
  • Enjoy learning and problem-solving with their handler

This program is not suitable for dogs with reactivity, significant behavioural concerns, or dogs who are still struggling with foundational skills.

If you’re unsure whether your dog is ready, we’re happy to guide you.

WHAT WE DEVELOP AT THIS STAGE:

  • Emotional regulation in stimulating environments

  • Advanced recall with added distractions, distance, and duration

  • Loose lead walking and calm behaviour in stimulating environments

  • Stronger “leave it” and impulse control around higher-value distractions

  • Improved focus around people and other dogs

  • Confidence-building challenges using tunnels, balance equipment, and weave-throughs

  • Clear communication and teamwork between you and your dog

This program is about proofing skills, not rushing progress.

Program details:

Designed as the final structured stage in the Flying Paws pathway, Paws in Practice focuses on real-world reliability, not rushed progression. Participation is by completion of Puppy to Pro only. This ensures the program stays safe, supportive, and effective for every dog involved.

  • 3-week small group program
  • Designed as a continuation from Puppy to Pro
  • New intakes available monthly (when space allows)
  • Flexible payment options available

If your dog isn’t quite ready yet, we’ll help you choose the best next step to build those foundations.
